We had the pleasure of speaking with Roy Soeigiarto, founder of Kairos Strategic Pte Ltd, to learn more about his journey and the unique experiences his company offers. Other than providing safety, security & emergency services, Roy has expanded towards the tourism industry with RHIB Rides Singapore which has carved out a special niche in the charter industry by providing guests with a new way to explore Singapore’s waters.
How and when did RHIB Rides Singapore get started, and what inspired you to focus on exciting RHIB tours?
Roy: RHIB Rides Singapore started in 2019. The inspiration came from wanting to give people who never had the chance to go out to sea, an opportunity to experience and appreciate it. However, we didn’t want to approach it like a typical yacht charter business. Our focus has always been on tours and expeditions using smaller boats, particularly RHIB’s (Rigid-Hulled Inflatable Boats) which are also used for security purposes. We’re not into luxury yachts but instead provide a more rugged and practical experience, perfect for expeditions, safety operations, and kayaking events.
What boats do you offer, and what are the key features clients tend to love the most?
Roy: We operate a fleet of 18 boats, primarily RHIB’s that Kairos Boats specifically built custom for use in Asia. These boats have pontoons on the sides, which act like spoilers on a car. They help stabilise the boat, especially during faster rides or in rough seas. That’s why they’re commonly used by military and government agencies—they’re extremely sturdy and reliable. We chose RHIBs because of their safety, comfort, and versatility. in countries like the UK and Scandinavia, RHIBs are very popular for these reasons. For us, they provide the perfect platform for exciting tours and expeditions.
What types of occasions or events do you most frequently cater to, and what makes your boats ideal for these moments?
Roy: Our tours are unique and have attracted Free Independent Travellers (FIT) or visitors attending MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conference, and Exhibitions) events. We offer 60-minute and 90-minute rides. The 90-minute ride includes a 30-minute stop at an island where guests can explore on foot.
These tours are a great way for visitors to see Singapore’s Southern Islands and learn about the country’s history in a short time. For corporate events, we’ve catered to groups as large as 50-60 people. We used 3-4 boats to accommodate everyone. running the operations in a military-style convoy. This allows large groups to enjoy the experience seamlessly. Aside from tours, we also provide emergency rescue services for boaters and families who require search-and-rescue support.
What is one of the most memorable or unique experiences a client has had aboard your boats?
Roy: One of the most memorable moments often involving our guests reliving their past. We’ve had guests in they 60s and 70s sharing stories about the Southern Islands with their grandchildren during our tours. Seeing them connect with their families and share their history is something truly special.
What do you believe RHIB Rides’ key elements are to delivering a world-class experience?
Roy: Safety would be one of our top priorities, which is why we use RHIBs—boats that are not only quick but also exceptionally stable.
Another key element is the educational aspect of our tours. We use guides licensed by the Singapore Tourism Board to provide a deeper understanding of Singapore’s history. Our “Mission Impossible Tour,” for example, showcases how Singapore transformed from a humble fishing village to a global hub.
