We had the pleasure of speaking with Jimmy, one of the founders of Zen Sea Yacht Charters, to uncover the story behind their journey and what makes their offerings so special. From humble beginnings during the pandemic to building a name in Singapore’s yacht charter scene, Zen Sea’s focus on creating cherished moments and unforgettable experiences truly stands out. Whether it’s cruising along Singapore’s skyline or hosting a celebration on their spacious catamaran, Zen Sea Yacht Charters brings a unique touch of luxury and personalisation to every trip.
How and when did Zen Sea get started in the yacht industry?
Jimmy: Zen Sea Yacht Charters started in late 2020, right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic when travel was heavily restricted. The idea came to life during a casual coffee chat with friends. One of them owned a private yacht and mentioned how many people were asking him for island-hopping trips. That sparked the thought: why not start a yacht charter business? We named it “Zen Sea” as a nod to the Chinese word “珍惜,” which means to cherish—something we want every customer to do with their time onboard. At the same time, the word “Zen” in English represents peace and tranquillity, perfectly capturing the experience we aim to provide.
What yachts do you offer, and what are the key features clients tend to love the most?
Jimmy: Zen Sea Yacht Charter offers three yachts, each tailored for different group sizes and occasions:
- Zen Sea 1: A cosy yacht perfect for small groups of up to 13 people, ideal for activities like fishing, swimming, and cruising.
- Zen Sea 2: The most popular and spacious option, this catamaran accommodates up to 40 guests and is favoured for birthday parties, corporate events, and family gatherings. It features unique amenities like a large cargo net for lounging and facilities such as a giant float and inflatable slide that is shared among our yachts (available at an extra cost)
- Zen Sea 3: A single-hull yacht with a capacity for up to 30 guests, great for mid-sized events and relaxing outings.

What types of occasions or events do you most frequently cater to, and what makes your yachts ideal for these moments?
Jimmy: We’ve catered to a variety of special occasions, including birthday party celebrations, proposals, corporate events, and family outings. Our yachts are well-suited for these moments due to their spacious layouts, facilities, and customisable options. Zen Sea 2 for instance, is a popular choice for larger gatherings like birthday parties or corporate team-building events, thanks to its expansive space and unique features like the cargo net for lounging. For intimate moments like proposals or small family gatherings, the Zen Sea 1 offers a cosy yet luxurious setting.
What is one of the most memorable or unique experiences a client has had aboard your yachts?
Jimmy: Zen Sea Yacht Charters has had many memorable moments, but one of the most unique was a proposal that took place on Zen Sea 2. The crew had just completed another charter and had only one hour to prepare for the proposal. Despite the short turnaround time, the crew worked tirelessly to transform the yacht into a romantic setting, making the proposal an unforgettable moment for the couple.
Another standout experience was the Langkawi trip. It was Zen Sea’s first international charter, lasting three days, and the clients thoroughly enjoyed the journey. The crew’s hospitality and top-tier service made it a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Do you offer overseas destinations, and if so, what are some of the most popular routes or destinations?
Jimmy: Zen Sea Yacht Charters offers overseas destinations, including trips to Langkawi and Batam. While these routes provide unique experiences, the demand for such long-distance charters has been relatively low compared to their local offerings.
What do you believe Zen Sea’s key elements are to delivering a world-class yacht charter experience?
Jimmy: For us, the key lies in service and safety. Our crew is highly experienced—some even come from a coast guard background—so we make sure every trip is not just enjoyable but also completely secure.
We take pride in paying attention to the smallest details and always putting our customers first. Whether it’s a proposal or a long voyage, we do our best to cater to every unique request. Most of the feedback we get highlights how knowledgeable, professional, and accommodating our crew is, which is something we’re really proud of.
